You can create a free Ancestry account known as a "Registered Guest" account. However, to get the full perks of their DNA tools and features, including viewing most records and family trees, you will to pay for a membership.
You will not lose your trees, DNA results, or account information if you cancel your Ancestry subscription. Your account will however become a free registered guest account with limited access to paid features.
For a free membership, you can search their free databases, register an AncestryDNA kit, create and edit family trees, view educational videos, share your trees, and see family trees you're invited to view.
AncestryDNA can help you explore your family history and identify potential ancestors by showing you your ancestral origins, DNA matches, and potentially ancestral journeys, which can help pinpoint where your relatives may have lived or moved in the past.

Ancestry offers a 14 day free trial. This helps anyone interested in trying out Ancestry services to access their huge library of historical documents and research resources. Select a membership plan, register, and provide your payment information to get started. The trial will automatically turn into a paid subscription if it is not cancelled at least two days prior to its expiration. You can go through documents, create a family tree, and learn about the past throughout the trial. You must have a working payment method however, you can stop using it at any moment via account settings to prevent fees.
Ancestry gift memberships
You can gift your family or friends six or twelve months of Ancestry's Gift Memberships. These memberships are not renewable but they allow users to go through old records, find ancestor stories, and build family trees. The receiver will get an email from Ancestry when you enter their details and choose a start date. If the membership hasn't started it can be regifted to another person.
